Activity 7.6 Design Brief (Apollo 13)

Activity 7.6 Design Brief (Apollo 13)

Client:
___________NASA____________
Designer:
_____Zaw Win@ George______
Problem Statement:
____One of the oxygen tanks blew apart due to electric spark. The team is forced to go to service module in order to survive. The service module is only designed to serve two people for a day and a half only. Moreover some of oxygen are being vented out into space. The carbon dioxide levels being raised to a certain point will start to cause poisoning.____
Design Statement:
_______Design and instruct the astronauts on board on improvising an oxygen filter.______

Design Criteria:
1.      ____Need to be able to filter three men's carbon dioxide___
2.      _____The carbon dioxide concentration must remain below 15%__
4.      ___Dimension need to be as required__

Design Constraints:
1.      _____Limited time before crew poisoned___
2.      __Quick to assemble___
3.      ___Easy to assemble__
4.      ___Materials need to able on spacecraft___
5.      ____Needs to fit through hole___
6.      ___Filter must work with service module___

Conclusion

1.      How does the short deadline to solve the problem affect the design solution?

The solution needs to be quick and easy to assemble. Moreover the solution need to be thought out quicker considering time required to relay information.

2.      Explain the importance of a design brief for this problem.

The design brief helps those working in space center find a target goal to achieve in order to bring back the astronauts safely home. The engineers and scientists are able to recognize constraints and criteria as well as conflicts regarding the design and spacecraft.
