Conclusion
1.               Explain the meaning of significant digits (or significant figures) in measurement.
Significant figures are the precise accuracy of measurement that is used. For example if there were three sig. fig.(significant figure) during the problem, the answer should also consist of three sig. fig.


2.               Why is the metric system used instead of the US customary system, and vice versa, in various parts of the world?
The system of measurement are used in accordance with the system that is widely used in daily life. However most use metric system due to its easy conversion and most of the SI base units derive from something in nature.

Why is it important for an engineer to know this piece of information? US customary system has fractions. Moreover SI measurements are only in power of tens while US customary system is not.
