Activity 7.3 Tolerances
Conclusion
1. Why
do engineers place tolerances on dimensions?
Manufactured pieces are never one hundred percent exact hence tolerances are needed to determine the accuracy of each part needed for assembly.
2.
What are the three types of tolerances that
appear on dimensioned drawings?
Limit tolerances determine the upper and lower deviation. Bilateral tolerance has numbers than can go both ways. While unilateral only allows one way.
3.
What is the difference between a general and a
specific tolerance, and how can you tell the difference on a drawing?
General tolerances are for measurements not indicated while specific tolerances only apply to those labeled with it. The difference is general tolerances are shown in table not beside dimensions while specific tolerance is shown nearby.
